Cheap Flight Tips for booking low-price airfares!
Before you start your search, here are a few low fare tips to consider when planning your next trip. Since airline fares change constantly, these are some helpful hints for finding the lowest airfare from two different viewpoints: booking airfare in general and using our online booking system. These are things your travel agent has always known - we're just taking a little of the mystery away.
Tips for booking airfare in general
Whenever possible, book early - at least seven days in advance
Many discount fares require that you make a reservation seven, 14, or 21 days in advance. When flying internationally the best fares often require a reservation 30 days in advance. Always try to make a reservation as soon as you know your travel dates; it will pay off.
Weekday flights are generally less expensive
Although you can find special fares throughout the week, the majority of deals occur during the middle of the week.
Plan to stay a Saturday night at your destination
Many discount fares require that you stay over at least one Saturday night before your return flight. However, in many cases they may require a minimum stay of three or four days before returning.
"Red-eye" flights often offer slightly discounted fares
These flights are often less desirable because of the time of night; therefore, there is less demand and the price is generally a little bit lower than it would be at peak hours.
Choose one airline for the entire trip
It is often less expensive to travel using one airline instead of two - in some cases, it can save you hundreds of dollars. Most airlines offer through fares which are almost always cheaper than purchasing two separate fares on different airlines.
Tips for booking cheap airfares online
Extend your search criteria; the next day may have lower fares. And the next, and the next...
The lowest roundtrip fares must have fares available for both departing and return flights. Try adding or subtracting a day from your search criteria. Continue until you find the best fare.
Non "rush hour" flights usually have greater availability
If you're not getting the search results you want, try changing your flight times for the widest range of flights for that day.
Be prepared to purchase your tickets instantly
Many seat sales require an instant purchase. No kidding! Within seconds your fare can jump hundreds of dollars.
Try fares to alternate airports in the same area
If your destination has more than one airport nearby, as many large cities do, look for flights into these other airports. It is common for two cities to have different pricing. For example, if flying to Los Angeles (LAX) look for flights into Burbank (BUR), or Orange County (SNA). If flying to Miami (MIA) it may be less expensive to fly into Ft. Lauderdale (FLL).
If you don't at first succeed, try an earlier or later flight
To get the lowest roundtrip fare, that fare must be available on both the departing and return flights you select. If the fare is sold out on either of these, the price you end up with will be much higher. Try an earlier or later flight if you can't find the fare you want; or, if possible, consider flying on another day.
As always with special deals, there are a number of rules and regulations that everyone should be aware of before making a purchase. Please verify the rules and regulations and be aware that most flights purchased online have restrictions and many are 100% non-refundable.
