With both the most populous city in the world, and some of the most beautiful beaches, Mexico is a lively destination. A variety of natural wonders from lush tropical rainforests to mountains and deserts make Mexico a gem.
ACAPULCO: Acapulco is one Mexico's most important and famous beach resorts. It is located on the Pacific coast, 395 kilometers (245 miles) from Mexico City and 133 kilometers (83 miles) from Chilpancingo, the state capital of Guerrero. It has a warm, humid climate with temperatures with sunny days throughout the year. Among the port city's many enticing qualities are: its beautiful bay, one of the best in the world; the calm waters of its beaches; the amenities offered by its well established hotel industry, which in recent years has undergone a major revamping, especially in the Punta Diamante neighborhood; and finally, the city's unbeatable nightlife, which offers one of the hottest playgrounds among Mexican vacation destinations.
CANCUN: Swathed in billowing blankets of powdery white sand beaches, Mexico’s Caribbean coast caters equally to the sports enthusiast, history buff and night-time pleasure seeker. Cancun’s hotel zone is legendary, with every imaginable watersport played on a shimmering field of azure seas, while nights ignite with first class discos, night clubs and vibrant fiestas. About an hour south of Cancun are the hot 'n' hip new resort areas of Playa del Carmen and Puerto Aventuras, both of which are a short distance from the rich Mayan ruins of dramatic Chichen Itza, Tulum and Coba.
COZUMEL: The island's scattered, crumbling ruins are testimony to Cozumel's role as a Mayan ceremonial and commercial center. Most ruins are small, low-to-the-ground square buildings (don't expect giant pyramids). Fury Catamarans, Glass bottom boat tours, The Sub Sea Explorer, Jungle Safari Jeep Tours, Horseback riding, Atlantis Submarines.
IXTAPA: Ixtapa offers 14 unspoiled beaches, golf courses, and fine quality shops. Tennis courts and a yacht marina add to the resort amenities. Launches explore the turtles, fish, and pelicans at El Morro de los Pericos, and excursion b oats tour Ixtapa Island, which served as the location for the film Robinson Crusoe.
LOS CABOS: Once sought after by pirates for its safe harbors, the Los Cabos ("the Capes") region of the Southern Baja Peninsula is now home to the bustling towns of San Jose del Cabo and Cabo San Lucas. Each offers travelers an exciting, fun-filled destination. San Jose del Cabo is a fine place to unwind; of the two Cabos, San Jose is the more sedate. Among activities available there are horseback riding across the sandy beaches, golf and shopping in an authentic Mexican atmosphere.
MAYAN RIVIERA / RIVIERA MAYA: This Mayan paradise offers vacationers sun and surf, plus many spectacular archaeological sites and wonders including the rich Mayan Ruins of Chichén Itzá, Tulum and Coba . This 100 mile corridor, newly dubbed the Mayan Riviera, has undergone tremendous transformation within a couple of years. It is now dotted with many unique and wondrous resorts and nature parks, and has gained high acclaim as one of the most desired holiday spots.
PUERTO VALLARTA: Incredibly, Puerto Vallarta has maintained the delightful flavour and pleasing ambience of its bygone days as a humble fishing village, while at the same time blossoming into one of the consummate international vacation hot spots. Puerto Vallarta boasts an extravagant nightlife, beaches, both wildly active and blissfully secluded, a matchless restaurant scene, dazzling shopping and major marine action from deep sea fishing to parasailing. Disco reigns in Puerto Vallarta and you’ll have a terrific time choosing your favourite from among the infinite chic and extravagant pleasure domes.
